Ajay is a citizen of the world, born and raised in India and currently residing in Switzerland, the seasoned musician blends both pop and rock genres with Americana and traditional Indian instruments into something radically new and genre-bending.
His music has held its own on the US and European charts and has repeatedly received positive accolades from the press and industry professionals. In 2018, Mathur’s album Little Boat was awarded Germany’s Best English Language Album of the Year 2018 by the German Pop Foundation. Little Boat follows his previous releases A Matter of Time in 2011, Come See Conquer in 2013 and the highly successful 9 to 3 in 2015, which earned Mathur a Grammy nomination. All of Mathur’s albums have enjoyed excellent reviews and acknowledgments in the international media. With four albums and a slew of singles released, the musician will be released his fifth project, Talking Loud. With powerful themes of acceptance and acknowledgement, the 15-track album seeks to provoke listeners while simultaneously providing an outlet for self-discovery.
Produced and recorded in Stans, Switzerland by Mathur, the robust musical project features Mathur on vocals, guitar, keys and effects along with percussionist Fausto Medici, bassist Richard Hugener and guitarist Christian Winiker. Written by Mathur and his writing partner Mary Lou von Wyl, Talking Loud. Born into a musical family in India, Ajay Mathur has been surrounded by the arts his entire life. At age 14, after a chance encounter with one of the most influential bands in music history, The Beatles, Mathur’s passion for music shifted into high gear.
With the aid of an older family member, he was encouraged to pick up a guitar and his fate was sealed. Having played with several bands and then leaving his homeland for new opportunities in Switzerland, the artist found great success in the European music scene. Throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s Mathur recorded four albums with his band Mainstreet. When the band broke up, the songwriter took an extended sabbatical from the stage to work on other projects, including writing music for commercials and short films.
After compiling over 40 fully recorded tracks, Mathur was ready to return to music and released his first album as an independent artist in 2011. With critics like Justin Harlan of Rock on Philly hailing Mathur as “an example of the far more interesting and experimental side of the adult contemporary market." "If you love artists like The Beatles, David Bowie, Tom Petty and Jackson Browne, you may love Ajay Mathur!" said Indie Music
