Futurist researchers are testing automated driving in the heart of Berlin. All along Diginet-PS’s four-kilometer-long test road, the car is expected to detect pedestrians, cyclists and other vehicles. The basis of all this is the data coming in from the cameras and laser scanners fitted on the car, getting the measure of its surroundings. But the street itself also has to be smart. Sensors on the side of the road, on street lamps and traffic lights all provide important traffic information too. This produces an enormous amount of data, all of which needs managing. T-Systems is providing the know-how required to create the operating infrastructure needed in the background for automated driving to become a reality.
