If someone were to comb through your YouTube search history, the odds are that (at some point) they're going to come across something you'd be embarrassed about. Thankfully, YouTube makes it possible to erase either your entire search history or individual searches. This video will show how to clear your YouTube search history on both the YouTube desktop website, and the YouTube mobile app for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.

Let's start with how to delete your YouTube search history using the YouTube mobile app for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.

Step 1. Launch the YouTube mobile app on either your iPhone, iPad, or Android device. You'll land on the home screen for your YouTube account.

Step 2. Tap the icon associated with your profile in the upper right corner of the screen. The Account screen appears.

Step 3. Tap "Settings." The Settings screen appears. Scroll down to the History & Privacy section.

Step 4. Tap "Clear Search History" in the History & Privacy section. A Clear Search History dialog box appears informing you that your entire search history will be cleared across all of your devices. Click "Clear Search History" in the lower right corner of the dialog box. A Search History Cleared message appears briefly along the bottom of the screen, and will disappear after a few seconds.

Congratulations! Your YouTube search history has been deleted through the YouTube mobile app.

And now let's talk through how to clear your YouTube search history on the YouTube desktop website.

Step 1. Open your web browser, navigate to youtube.com, and then log in to your YouTube account if you're not logged in already.

Step 2. Click the "Menu" icon in the upper left corner of the screen. The Menu icon features three horizontal lines. A menu flys in from the left side of the screen.

Step 3. Click "History" in the Library section. A screen displaying your YouTube history appears.

Step 4. Click "Search History" beneath History Type on the right side of the screen to shade in the radio selector to the right of that option. A list of your YouTube searches appears on the left side of the screen.

Step 5. Click the "X" to the right of any individual YouTube search to delete that specific search item. The search item will instantly be deleted and replaced with a message that that particular item has been removed from your YouTube search history. Alternatively, if you want to clear your entire YouTube search history, click "Clear All Search History" on the right side of the screen. A Clear Search History dialog box appears informing you that your entire search history will be cleared across all of your devices. Click the red "Clear Search History" button in the dialog box. A Search History Cleared message appears briefly in the lower left corner of the screen, before the History screen appears. The search history section on the left side of the screen will be blank, only displaying a message that says your search history is empty.
