The massive eastern wing of Venice's Church of San Lorenzo has been turned by artist Simone Fattal into the location of a non-narrative stories, a stage full of mythical characters drifting together in nonlinear time. The Damascus-born, California-based octogenarian sculptor, translator, and publisher draws on a wide range of sources in her multidisciplinary art practise, including history, poetry, and mythology from across languages and geographies, so that time itself becomes malleable matter, past and present residing in her work without conflict, pointing to connections and continuities rather than anachronisms and contradictions.
