Child marriage. Defilement. Child neglect. These three were the most frequently reported issues affecting children in refugee settlements in Kikuube and Kyegegwa districts in western Uganda, with a reported average of 10-16 cases a month in Kyangwali Settlement alone in 2022. However, these numbers have since dropped by more than half following a two-year UK Aid-funded project to strengthen child protection systems for prevention and response to violence against children in refugee settings and their host communities.
