Recording acoustic guitar and vocals simultaneously is a task with many considerations, one of the main ones being microphone placement.
I had the opportunity to try out the Aston Stealth and Starlight microphones, and thought it would be a great opportunity to compare them in various placements, and on their range of settings.
I trial the Starlight small diaphragm condenser microphones as a stereo pair on acoustic guitar in a few different positions. I also tried the Aston Stealth microphone on vocals and listened to three of the settings it has to offer.
Placement was key during this session, and taking the time to trial a few different configurations really paid off in achieving a good balance on the acoustic guitar. Being able to switch through the different settings on the Stealth when recording vocals was an eye opening experience, and confirmed my theory of choosing the right mic for the voice being recorded.
