■ Why are two days in Petra much better than one day?
April 19, 2023, day one: Like most people, we begin our journey of discovery in Petra, Wadi Musa
At 7:30 a.m. we started from the main entrance through the 1.5 km long Siq, a 70 m deep gorge - the first highlight. Most people walk around missing the beauty. There is so much to explore – if you have a guide who can explain things to you in more detail.
Since we shoot a lot of videos and photos, it takes us 1.5 hours until we reach the second highlight - the "Treasury" - a mausoleum carved into the pink sand rock.
Here we already spend half an hour admiring all the details.
We continued with many graves and we finished our guided tour at 1:00 p.m. in the “Byzantine Church”.
After lunch near “Qasr El Bint” we started our hike to the “High Place of Sacrifice”.
Very nice hike and not so steep and crowded from Qasr El Bint.
Finally, after a long day we returned to the main entrance at 5pm.
April 20, 2023: Our original plan was to start again from the main entrance through the “Wadi Al Mudhlim” to the “Monastary”. But Wadi Al Mudhlim was closed.
■ So our guide from yesterday convinced us that it is much better to discover the “monastery” via the “back entrance hike”. And I have to admit – this is so much better!
No crowds, easy hike. Of course we tried to start as early as possible, took advantage of the free transfer from Petra to Little Petra around 7:30 a.m. and then took another four-wheel drive shuttle to the starting point, where we set off at 8:45 a.m.
■ It was such a magical moment when we reached the “monastery” around 10:15 am. Because of this place - which is so indescribably beautiful - we spend 3h30 there!!!!
Of course we visited all the small viewpoints in the area and spent a lot of time in a small café there. It was so magical!!!!!
On the way back to the main entrance we saw so many exhausted people because the path from the main entrance; is long and steep (800 steps).
