And he's again exploring further on the subject of Hybrid Picking ... a Technique used by some of your favorite Guitar Players such as Guthrie Govan, Steve Travato, Michael Landau, Steve Vai, Brett Garsed, Greg Howe, Shawn Lane, Richie Kotzen, Jeff Beck and many more.
This is the second of several Guitar Lesson Videos we've put together with Mr. Lawlor ... all of which will be posted here on youTube in the coming weeks. Each one of these Free Lessons are meant to touch briefly on several different Guitar Techniques. These techniques are all subjects that by themselves are rather large topics to explore. So in these videos we just wanted to introduce the topics and show a few tips on how to get started and explore beyond the basics.
We are currently working on several extensive Lesson Package based on these Techniques. The first on is based on Hybrid Picking and all it's sounds and uses. From Rock to Fusion to Country ... Hybrid Picking is an integral Technique in getting a specific sound and pop to some of the coolest Licks you've heard from some of your favorite Guitar Players. Without this Technique ... those Licks that you like so much ... will sound flat and a lot less interesting.
This Lesson Package will be filled with a thorough Breakdown of the Technique ... tips on how to really use this Technique most efficiently ... Tons of Licks that will help you to get this Technique under your fingers and begin to really feel comfortable with it. In this Lesson Package there is a lot of time spent exploring and pushing the bounds of this Technique ... using it with your common everyday Blues Licks to make them sound fresh and unique.
We are really excited about this Hybrid Picking Lesson Package because Michael Lawlor has really taken this Technique and made it into something completely his own. His use of this Technique after many years has produced such a smooth and ear twisting sound that ... almost on a daily basis he gets asked the question ... "how do you get that ... smooth rolling ... effect to all your Licks". Well, that SECRET (lol, not really a secret ... but definitely something many people often overlook) will be explained along with many other Tips and Tricks.

As for this Free Lesson ... Michael continues to explore the basics of his Hybrid Picking Technique. He talks a little about where it first started for him ... in his days at GIT (musicians institute) while taking lessons with the amazing Steve Travato.
Michael then slowly breaks down a really cool open string Lick that incorporates this Hybrid Picking Technique and ends this short Guitar Lesson by tying it in with what he discussed in the first Lesson he did on the Hybrid Picking Technique.
