Istanbul, Turkey's most populous city with over 15 million inhabitants, the only city in the world spanning two continents, Europe and Asia. With a rich history of thousands of years, Istanbul is a cultural and economic centre of global importance.

Istanbul's history dates back to ancient times, when the city was known as Byzantium. In 330 AD, it was declared the capital of the Roman Empire as Constantinople by Emperor Constantine the Great. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, Constantinople remained the centre of the Eastern Roman or Byzantine Empire. In 1453, Sultan Mehmed II conquered the city and made it the capital of the Ottoman Empire. Since then it has been called Istanbul.

This historical range is reflected in the city's numerous sights. The magnificent Topkapı Palace, once the residence of the Ottoman sultans, and the Hagia Sophia, a masterpiece of Byzantine architecture, are just two impressive examples.

Today, Istanbul is a dynamic metropolis that impresses with its unique geographical location and rich history. It combines the cultures and traditions of East and West in a fascinating way and remains a vibrant centre of cultural and economic life in Turkey.

I can only confirm that Istanbul offers an inexhaustible variety of impressions and experiences. I am almost lost for words, so varied, so WOW, I still think back to my visit to Istanbul with great pleasure. And I have captured many of these impressions for you and bundled them into my video - with driving, lively music, which is also intended to reflect the vibrancy of the city.

Haga Sophia touched me so much that I dedicated a video to it: ONE DAY IN ISTANBUL BONUS VIDEO: HAGA SOFIA, which you can watch here:    • HAGIA SOPHIA (TURKEY) | ONE DAY IN IS...
