How to use Face Tracking in Davinci Resolve

In this Sixty Second Tutorial we look at how to use the very simple but powerful face tracking feature in Davinci Resolve, we cover the following:-

1. Da Vinci’s in-built face tracking feature is really useful when you want to change exposure or make other adjustments only to your subject’s face.

2. First make sure you are in the color editing workspace, then create a new node on your clip, open the window tab, and left click to add a circle to your shot.

3. Next go to the tracker tab and make sure you have dragged your playhead to the start of your clip.

4. Now adjust the circle’s position and size, to fit correctly on your subject’s face. The inner ring adjusts the size, the outer ring adjusts the masking.

5. Once the circle fits your subjects face, click the track forward arrow and DaVinci will automatically track the movement of your subjects face.

6. Now any adjustments you make on this node will be localised to the face and track to match your subjects movements.

7. This can be a really helpful technique for interviews or moving gimbal shots.
