How to come up with Great Character Ideas - Character Development for Writing and Roleplaying
How to come up with great character ideas can often be a daunting process, but here we'll be looking at how to do this from the perspective of character development (for writing and roleplaying). In this video, we are going to expand on what we did in the last video and look at ways we can develop a basic or stereotypical character idea in the fantasy genre and make them more three dimensional, memorable and able to hold their own stories for roleplaying and writing. We’ll be looking at character traits, motivations and how that relates to their backgrounds. Lastly, we’ll be looking at character flaws and how that helps you as the writer or GM to create a character that is lasting for an audience. We’ll be doing this practically, in real-time by taking the concept of the “Knight/White Knight” in Dungeons and Dragons and building a character that is more in depth and less cliché / tropey than would most people would expect - hopefully this video will help with your character development, whether that's for writing your short stories, novels, scripts... or even for roleplaying too.
