Already now we can talk about a really wide dynamic range, that is, there are no obvious overexposures in the video or, conversely, too dark areas with an equally exposed frame.
In addition to this video, Xiaomi has published several photos taken with the module with an ultra wide-angle lens. What immediately catches your eye is the absence of clearly noticeable distortion and aberration at the edges of the frame, as well as the minimum amount of noise. It is unclear whether Xiaomi subjected these frames to correction, but even if so and provided that all the necessary tools for this are available in the stock Gallery application, the result is mind-blowing.
Xiaomi smartphones with high-quality cameras are the exception rather than the rule. For a long time, in terms of their photo capabilities, the company's top products did not go very far from middle-class smartphones, and many “kicked” them precisely for the photo quality. Although during the presentation Xiaomi pretended that the Mi 11 was “our flagship for photos”, it has little chance of jumping a cut above its predecessor and competitors. What changed? We collected the best old and forgot to replace it with a good new one. There have been some changes against the background of its predecessor, but without a significant leap forward.
I would like to praise the company for not installing a huge scattering of cameras on the back side of the Xiaomi Mi 11. Despite its impressive size, the block itself looks neat and is created as if from a single piece of glass.
The overall quality of the photo on the main module of Xiaomi Mi 11 does not raise many questions - it allows you to count on decent shots both in perfect ambient light and in the dark. Moreover, this is true both when activating a special night mode, and without it. The sensor works well with color, captures more detail, but it soapy the image around the edges and does not always give excellent detail. High-aperture optics together with an impressive-sized sensor allow you to get pleasant natural bokeh when shooting close-ups.
The wide-angle module Xiaomi Mi 11 13 megapixel lacks autofocus and does not shine with a dynamic range. It is difficult to shoot something intelligible and of good quality at dusk because of the low aperture ratio. The third camera is solely responsible for macro photography, and with proper skill, you can get decent photos, which are not ashamed to be thrown into a social network and shown on a computer screen. The image clarity is sufficient, but it is unlikely that such a shooting mode is often needed by someone.
In terms of the combination of qualities, the Xiaomi Mi 11 camera did not become head and shoulders above its predecessor and is inferior to the recognized camera phones of 2020. The excellent main 108 megapixel module does not "draw out" the overall average impression formed by not the most outstanding width and lack of optical zoom. One of the main omissions in the Xiaomi Mi 11 is the rejection of the zoom periscope.
