How to Synchronize Audio and Video— Roland VR-1HD
Often, when streaming or recording, audio and video feeds are not aligned. Applying a delay will help synchronize audio and video. Learn how to figure out the number of milliseconds you need to apply to the delay to realign audio and video, so their timing is coordinated using a camera, a microphone, and VR capture software. For this demonstration, Nico Suárez is using the Roland VR-1HD AV Streaming Mixer. However, this process can be replicated on any Roland video mixer that has an audio delay function.
On the VR capture software, check that the video and audio inputs are assigned to your video mixer. Then, record a quick, impactful sound like the closing of a slate board. Once the test clip is imported into your video editing software, you’ll be able to see when the sound occurs and when the impact happens in the video. Trim the video to find the time difference between the frame and the audio bar. The time of the clip will inform the amount of time you need to input into the Delay function.
In the menu of the VR-1HD, go to the video input and then choose Audio Output-USB Stream. Add the time difference of the clip from the software into the Delay function. Then you’ll ensure the audio and video arrive into the computer at the same time.
