Ah the 2022 Sportster S vs. Indians FTR 1200.
One of Harley-Davidson’s most iconic motorcycles is the Sportster. It’s remained nearly unchanged for several years, until 2021. With the release of the Sportster S, Harley aimed to update their historic model and bring it into modern day. The updates on the Sportster S included an all new liquid cooled Vtwin that put out enough power at the twist of the throttle to bring this bike into a new segment for the brand. By new segment, I mean that this motorcycle now stands in a different category for Harley. It’s known as their top Sport Cruiser. Being a sport cruiser means there is now new modern competitors put up against this beast. One being, the Indian FTR 1200.
The FTR 1200 is a motorcycle modeled after the brands flat track bikes that always make a killing in racing. The FTR is powered by a torquey 1203 cc engine. At first glance this motorcycle might not look like a proper competitor to the Sportster S, but with a closer look…you’ll see how similar they are. Both have American made 60 degree Vtwins, both have fun ride modes, cornering ABS and traction control. They both also have a starting price point of $14,999.
