In this video I will answer the question "How to make the synthesizer react to a change in velocity?".
Velocity allows you to set the volume separately for each note.
Without using velocity, the sound is more "musky", not natural, because a person does not play like that: there is always some difference between the volume of individual notes and it can and should be used. But the trouble is that synthesizers do not respond to velocity by default.
And all because velocity is a modulator, that is, a control signal that can control anything. Not necessarily by volume. And it is available to us in the list of modulators in the same way as envelopes or LFOs. It can be called differently in different synthesizers. In Serum it is called "Velo". Somewhere there may be "Vel" or completely "Velocity".
By default, it is not assigned to anything, therefore it does not respond to velocity. In order to start reacting, you need to assign this modulator to the parameter that it will control. In this case - on the volume.
We find the volume of our oscillator, look at what value it is. We lower this handle to zero and assign velocity with such depth that the value that the handle had was somewhere in the region of 80% of the full velocity range.
As a result, the oscillator will not only respond to velocity, but also the values will be close to those that a piano would have.
This is also done in the same way if we have ready-made presets.
In all other synthesizers, the principle is the same.
