1. Introduction to VTP
What is VTP?

VTP stands for VLAN Trunking Protocol. It's a Cisco proprietary protocol used to manage VLAN information across multiple switches in a network.
Configuring VLANs on a VTP server automatically propagates the information to all VTP clients in the same VTP domain. This reduces the need to manually configure VLANs on each switch, making network management easier.
Why Use VTP?

🎯Reduces configuration errors.
🎯Provides centralized control of VLANs.
2. VTP Modes
VTP has three modes: Server, Client, and Transparent.

Server Mode:
🎯The default mode for a switch.
🎯Can create, modify, and delete VLANs, which are then advertised to all other switches in the domain.
🎯These changes are stored in NVRAM.
Example:
Switch(config)# vtp mode server

Client Mode:
🎯Can receive VLAN updates from VTP servers but cannot create, modify, or delete VLANs.
🎯Does not store VLAN information in NVRAM.
Example:
Switch(config)# vtp mode client

Transparent Mode:
🎯Does not participate in VTP. It forwards VTP advertisements but doesn’t modify its VLAN database.
🎯VLANs can be created locally but aren’t propagated to other switches.
Example:
Switch(config)# vtp mode transparent

🏁Verify the configuration:
Switch# show vtp status
💡Expected Output:
It should display the VTP mode, domain, and other VTP-related details.

3. VTP Pruning
What is VTP Pruning?

VTP Pruning is used to optimize VLAN traffic by limiting broadcast, multicast, and unknown unicast traffic to only the switches that have members of that VLAN. Without pruning, all VLANs are flooded across all trunk links.
