It seems that all of the home smart wifi products state they need a 2.4Ghz dedicated wifi band to connect to your home network.

A potential issue is that new routers from cable companies like Cox, use a dual band broadcast that toggles between 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.

When I first got my dual band wifi from Cox cable, none of my home smart products worked. Though some of the newer, more expensive smart home products seem to do OK connecting now, many do not, especially some of the lower cost items.

To solve this problem, one way to get a dedicated 2.4 Ghz network is to use a wifi extender. Like this one from Amazon that I use in my home from Netgear:

It will connect to your dual band modem and rebroadcast the signal in a dedicated 2.4Ghz and/or 5Ghz band, so that you can use the 2.4Ghz for your smart lock, video doorbell, garage monito, or other smart home device that needs it.

1)Try your new smart home gadget with the modem you have. 2) If you have issues, pick up an extender that will re-broadcast your wifi in a dedicated 2.4Ghz band.

As an Amazon affiliate I do earn a small commission if you purchase through the link shown.
