Hello and Welcome To Selenium 4 Beginners. How To Generate Values Using ChroPath For Firefox and Chrome. In this lesson, I will discuss What Is ChroPath, then Install ChroPath followed by some of the Features of ChroPath.
What Is ChroPath? ChroPath is a browser plug in that generates XPath and CSS Selectors. Also, it can inspect and test the inspection of the WebElements just like Chrome’s Development Tool.
You know how we go to Chrome and test an application like Tools QA. Right click, select Inspect, then CTRL + F.
CTRL + F helps us to test our inspection by writing our own value. For example, we can inspect Text1 by clicking the Inspect icon then selecting Text1. Text1 does not have a name or id attribute within the span tag so let’s start the inspection with id using the label tag. We write 2 forward slashes, label, 2 brackets, @, id equals, 2 single quotes, then write NextedText forward slash span. The green background highlight shows we have found the element and successfully tested the inspection. ChroPath can do the same as this development tool.
When ChroPath first came to the market, it was only available for Chrome but now. We can install ChroPath on Firefox and Chrome. I am going to start by installing ChroPath on Firefox.
We see Download for Chrome and Download for Firefox on AutonomIQ website. We can also search for ChroPath. We see ChroPath for Chrome and ChroPath for Firefox.
Here’s the add on for Firefox. Sanjay Kumar is the creator for ChroPath. Click the Add to Firefox button then click Add. In the top right corner, we see an icon ChroPath for Firefox. Click the icon and it provides steps for ChroPath.
For Chrome, we click the Download Chrome button then click Add to Chrome. Click Add Extension. ChroPath has been added to Chrome. The same icon appears in the top right corner. ChroPath. We are finished installing ChroPath on Chrome and Firefox.
Now, lets look at the features for ChroPath on Firefox. Generate locators in seconds, support iFrame, and has an editor.
Have you noticed that most people use Chrome to inspect the elements and write their own customized values? That’s because Firefox and other browsers do not support a way to write our own value and test the inspection. That’s one of the benefits of using ChroPath for Firefox.
Select Inspect Element. We see ChroPath at the end. Here is the editor. The editor lets us write and test our customized value. First, we inspect the element. Select inspect, Text1. ChroPath generates the relative XPath, absolute XPath, and CSS Selector. Also, at the bottom it generates the tag name, attribute name, and attribute value.
In the editor, let’s write the same xpath value that was used in Chrome Development Tool. 2 forward slashes, label, 2 brackets, @, id equals, NextedText within single quotes, forward slash span. Enter. There is 1 matching node. Look what happens if the value is not correct. Remove the letter ‘n’ from span and hit enter. 0 matching node.
We have the option of copying the generated XPath or CSS Selector and modifying the value. We can update the value after it shows up in the editor. Feel free to click the Thumbs Up icon to review and help other people.
Let’s look at some more features using ChroPath for Chrome. AutonomIQ created this Community Design Program page that let us test iFrames. Just like Firefox, ChroPath is located at the end for Chrome. I am going to switch it up and change the theme. Click the 3 dots, select Settings, then select Light. We can set the driver commands to show driver.findElement and set the attributes. Another ChroPath feature is the ability to capture multiple selectors. I am going to select First Name and we see how ChroPath support iFrame 3 ways.
The first way shows ‘if’ in front of the editor. The second way shows an orange box surrounding the First Name label. The third way shows Label #1 with insi truncated after Firstname. insi means inside iframe.
