We here at Terror Formed just realized it's October, so we scrapped together this video essay analysis on John Carpenter's original Halloween from 1978 to celebrate every cool person's favorite holiday ever.
Halloween has quite the savory subtext worthy of a good deconstructing. However, once the slasher boom hit the horror movie market, the deeper meaning of Halloween (1978) was lost to time. So toon into this here video commentary for a deep dive into those savory themes before Halloween day hits and Mister Michael "The Shape" Myers shows up at your doorstep to put your pumpkin candle out for good.
Halloween is all about a young and groovy lady named Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) who's leaving behind childhood and entering into adulthood. Her friends, Annie and Lynda, have no problem being adults and going bounce in the sheets. Laurie, however, isn't so hip to this scene. Then Michael Myers shows up and acts all creepy, and that's when this here subtext breakdown comes into play. I'm just gonna say it, most of the Halloween sequels got Michael all wrong (even though they're still pretty awesome in their own right). The sibling plot line can be kinda fun, but let's be real, nothing beats the OG evil in all its randomness.
