(UPDATE) Wanna add a few things here since we got the Astalgia update on RU:
You can get almost any material from anywhere. There are still a few items that are found in specific areas but it should tell you in the tooltip.
New recipes for items now. (ex. you can make arctus crystals with fishing, archaeology and hunting materials now).
Any life skill is good for gold now, they all seem consistent. (at least on RU that is.)
