We know from decades of social science research that LGBTQ people across all demographics are more likely than their non-LGBTQ counterparts to experience mental health challenges, the direct result of minority stress rooted in anti-LGBTQ stigma. LGBTQ people who are living in rural and/or more conservative parts of the country may have an added burden of isolation and fewer LGBTQ-inclusive resources and services available to them. This webinar will include an overview of data on the mental health needs and experiences and needs of the LGBTQ community, including LGBTQ youth, LGBTQ seniors, LGBTQ people of color, and transgender folks. This webinar will provide tips and tools for how to improve community support and reduce social isolation for members of the LGBTQ community who are often on the margins of our health care and human services system.
Join this free, 60-minute webinar where attendees will learn how to:
Increase knowledge of impact of minority stress on the mental health of LGBTQ people
Increase knowledge of the social determinants and protective factors to support LGBTQ mental health
Identify best practices and advocacy tools to improve the well-being of LGBTQ people in rural and conservative areas
