Luciano Pavarotti as the Duke of Mantua in the 1982 movie version of Rigoletto based on Giuseppe Verdi's 1851 opera with the same name. At a ball in his palace, the Duke sings of a life of pleasure with as many women as possible (Questa o quella - This woman or that). He has seen an unknown beauty in church and desires to possess her, but he also wishes to seduce the Countess of Ceprano. Verdi gave the Duke two of Italian opera's most brilliant arias - "Questa o quella" and "La donna e mobile" - this extraordinarily powerful 1982 production may be the best-sung performance by Luciano Pavarotti. This production also starred Ingvar Wixell as Rigoletto / Monterone, Edita Gruberova as Gilda, and Ferruccio Furlanetto as Sparafucile.
