The year is 1987. Japanese wrestling superstar Riki Choshu has recently made a glorious return to his home promotion of New Japan Pro Wrestling, after working for their direct rival. For his troubles gets blasted in the face by a very real kick that breaks his orbital bone and lays him out for a month.
The man behind the kick was Akira Maeda. The controversial, difficult to work with and historically influential pro wrestler who blurred the lines between a work and shoot more than anyone of his generation.
These are three stories of Meada going into business for himself and shooting on someone in the ring, from Satoru Sayama to Andre the Giant.
