I love when a song can step back and make way for such an emotional vocal take. This recording is all about the strength in Neko’s aching hard scrabble howl. I almost don’t have to listen to the lyrics to get what she’s sending out. But then I do hear the words and they end up being the unexpected knockout punch. This track is a prime example of the decades Neko has spent crafting smart, articulate vignettes.
