CD Hovercraft without a CD
I often get asked what can be used in place of CDs for my projects, so I have used a polystyrene pizza tray here.

I think there is probably an optimal size of balloon. The small one I used did not last long. Larger balloons are too heavy and unbalance easily so I guess it will just be a matter of try it yourself.
I have noticed from other peoples videos that they blow up the balloon first then attach it to the bottle top. This gets over the problem of blowing through the bottom of the CD when it gets dirty after has been on the floor. Seems like a sensible approach to me.

Clearly many parts of the world do not have polystyrene pizza trays. They are just the packaging that my local supermarkets use for pizzas. I use them because they are free and would otherwise be thrown away. You could use any polystyrene or styrofoam packaging you can find or even buy foam board from model shops. The foam I am using is about 5mm thick.
