CONTENT CREATORS BEWARE -Podcast Scam (Details in Description)
To all of my fellow creators out there please beware of this Podcast scam!! This is the scam that originally got me and the email was much better crafted than this one. Now that they've had success they are clearly starting to do this more en masse. If a podcast reaches out to you claiming to be sponsored by a major brand and wanting you to come on to the show for a certain price, be wary.
Once they get in they will take your entire account over, lock you out, block your personal accounts so you can't interact with it, start posting scam articles your followers fall for and sometimes even completely wipe your page and rebrand it while keeping all of your followers. They will also block keywords so your followers can't warn one another on the page and steal your revenue. It took almost a month to get my account back and I had to start all over from scratch!
Here are the similarities I've seen with this scam so far:
Claims to be sponsored by Puma, Adidas, Nike, Sephora, Lululemon, etc
Offers compensation ranging from $2000-$5000
Tends to have a pretty fast approaching date in which they want to interview you
The person contacting you will often present themselves as a manager, interview specialist, etc. as if they are a member of the staff
If accepted they will try to get you on a video call to "walk you though" the process. Do not do it.
If they talk about "paid Facebook live events" know that it is a scam. That is a retired program that Facebook no longer uses.
Will try to get you to send them an "invite" in order to do the podcast. No matter what do not send this to them.
So far I have only seen them trying to represent male podcasters, often with unrelatable content to your page
Will not have a contract for you to review and sign
Ultimately legitimate podcasts tend to schedule much further out. If meeting ahead of time it's to get to know you and talk about terms, not to help you set anything up. ALWAYS vet them by going to their website and even emailing them directly through their contact page if you can to verify it is legitimate.
