Court Orders Remand of Ooni’s Ex-Queen
A Chief Magistrate in Ibadan has remanded Prophetess Naomi Silekunola, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife, alongside Oriyomi Hamzat, owner of Agidigbo FM, and Fasasi Abdulahi, Principal of Bashorun Islamic High School, on charges of conspiracy and culpable homicide, amid heightened tensions outside the court.
In Abuja, the Federal High Court ordered the police to either charge activist Olamide Thomas or release her within 48 hours, citing violations of her rights after her alleged abduction.
Human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi has been released after weeks in detention on defamation charges. The Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee dismissed a request to revoke his licence, stating that the alleged offences occurred in his capacity as an author.
President Bola Tinubu, in a recent media chat, reaffirmed his commitment to tax reforms and the removal of fuel subsidies, attributing recent stampedes to poor crowd management.
