Don’t Hook GA4 to UA Tags

Google wants you to connect your new GA4 property to your original Universal Analytics through the UA tags on your site.
Here’s why you don’t want to leave it that way.
In March 2023 Google started auto migrating folks by creating a new GA4 property and connecting it to the UA tags already on the site so the new GA4 property could start collecting data.
And as of May 2023, Google is insisting that we do that same connection even if we set up our own GA4 property.
But you definitely don’t want that to be the only way GA4 can collect data.
We’re going to hear SCREAMING later from site owners who think they can just use the new GA4 property Google set up for them, and they can delete the analytics plugin they’ve been using, or the UA tags on their site.
Then their GA4 will suddenly stop working too.
Instead, you’re going to want to install the new GA4 tags directly on your site.
I prefer to do it using the WPCode Lite plugin, formerly called Insert Headers and Footers.
That way you don’t need an analytics plugin, and you don’t have to worry about changing themes and deleting the tags you put in the header area of it either.
