An easy trick to get amazing scenes every time.
In many ways, filmmaking is about manipulating the audience.
The easiest way to do that is to figure out what the actual point of your scene is before you shoot it.
It sounds obvious, but this trick can give you a ton of power as a filmmaker.
Before each scene, try to figure out what emotion or feeling you're trying to convey.
Shock. Terror. Awe. Sadness.
Once you have that figured out, try to figure out what exactly in the scene is going to make the audience feel that.
Once you have that figured out, directing a scene will be easy.
You'll know what you're trying to get the audience to feel, and how you're going to do it.
You're also going to be much better at recognizing good ideas that will improve your scene, because you know the point and goal behind everything you're doing.
