The first is familiar and simple, the sound is clear and rich, but extraneous noise may appear due to sliding fingers over an uneven surface. Flat-wound strings are designed to create the so-called contrabass tone, first of all. Their sound is not so sharp, but softer and more dense. And in order to understand the difference by ear, in the video we will play the same Fender Precision bass guitar with both strings types: as a round-wound option we will have Italian GALLI STRINGS, and as flat strings - ERNIE BALL!
