So OK this is not about the IC7300 but I thought the title would garner more views. (That's marketing) The NCX-5 was intended as an uptown offering from National Radio costing around $600 in the Mid-60s (about $5K today). Some suggest it was an alternative to the Collins KWM-2.
It has a singular important product differentiation feature, a mechanical digital dial mechanism with a solid state VFO that can be squinted to 100Hz. It is fairly accurate and really miles apart from the NCX-3 and NCX-200 (I have both). Shades of Jimmy Millen and the HRO Receiver dial with lots of gears
I bought this as a piece of junk and made some repairs to large wattage resistors and not too much else. The AGC as you will see in the video is like set on fast and most likely is not working. The AGC has since been fixed.
But I have made contacts on the radio and if the AGC and low power output in the CW part of the band but full output on SSB, it would be a rig good enough for daily use.I suspect a realignment of the tuning networks will fix the CW issue.
The output is a pair if 6BJ6 (like Drake) and since this is an early model has a 7360 balanced modulator tube.
Sit back and enjoy a rig of yesteryear. You could say it was an IC7300 of 1965.
