Get Started with Power Automate Deskop (Install and create RPA)
This video tutorial shows how to install and create your first Microsoft Power Automate Desktop RPA automation. It's easy to get started after installing and setting up Power Automate Desktop, we create our first automation, where we open an application and perform various actions in it (e.g. type and click) and finally close the application again. You'll get a basic understanding of automating the UI elements including the selectors.

Microsoft just made their RPA tool free to use, and in this guide, we'll see how to install Power Automate Desktop and create your first RPA robot. If you're running Windows 11, you already have Power Automate Desktop installed. If you're at Windows 10, you just have to install the free installer from the Microsoft homepage. Next, pick the default settings and remember to enable the Chrome and Edge browser extensions, so we can do browser automation. Finally, sign in with your Microsoft credentials.

Actions are predefined code blocks ready to use, and in the Main, our code goes. We create a robot that opens an application = Notepad here because you all have it on your computer. The intuition is the same in Notepad and more advanced applications such as SAP or Salesforce. We use the action Run application to open an application. Provide the application path of the application you want to automate. Use the Display message action to pause the robot and deliver a message to the developer/user/viewer. To type text into Notepad we use the Populate text field in window action, where we create a UI element (the place where we want to add the text). The best practice is to rename your UI element to make it easy to develop and maintain your robot. Experiment by moving the actions in a different order and see how they're performed by the robot. To close the Notepad again, use a Close window activity. The Click UI element in window lets us click any UI element in our application.
