Mike Rubbottom's 12,000 square foot hard core, old school gym is no more, run out of business by the ordinary and awful PF that went in just down the street.
Mike's gym began its life in 1996 as the area's first Gold's Gym, during a time when being a Gold's really meant something. Mike hand picked his equipment and right up until closing near the end of 2022, he ran the gym with perhaps the most complete of 1990's Cybex equipment in existence in the world. Beyond the equipment, the ambiance was conducive to positive results regardless fo fitness goal and Mike himself was a big piece of that culture.
We began our America's Destination Gym Experience project because of just this same type of event taking place across the US and abroad. Ordinary fitness centers powered by corporate greed and anonymous ownership that cares very little about the member or the community saving their cares more for the fat stacks of cash they hope to bring home from people's patronage have stolen the good members of these working gyms and replaced greatness with cheap.
Great mom and pop old school gyms like Mike's should be able to remain in business and we should be able to train there and perhaps with just a little more energy pushed their way by others like us in the World Famous Kissimmee Muscle 24 hour gym, they can remain afloat.
It's no secret that our traveling tribe of guests from all over the world are a large part of why we have remained in business in the face of steep competition. We have supported more than 500,000 traveler visits from more than 126 countries and by doing so earned the moniker of America's Destination Gym. We understand we have had this opportunity partly because so many people travel to Orlando and the surrounding area for recreation and leisure. We were able to capitalize on this fact by creating specific travel options for our traveling guests that make accessing our gym easy and memorable. We intend to use our voice in the world as a platform to help other less well known but equally as meaningful gyms around the world have access to a broader audience of visitors that can help lift us all and help us to continue to provide the Equipment, Environment and Ease of Access that set us all apart.
