Sorie Kim sketchbook master class drawing basics and beyond transform observation into imagination book preview. I was very surprised by how much I enjoyed this book, as often I am put off by books that have a lot of text in, however Drawing Basics and Beyond is very user friendly and easy to read in my opinion and helped my find my motivation to pick up a ballpoint and start drawing! The book covers a lot of fundamentals, but also talks about how Sorie Kim uses her sketchbooks, and how to learn efficiently by studying from reference and implementing the information to imagination. Maybe some of us already know this, but despite that, I find it very helpful to get reminders of this from highly skilled artists. As well as the information being invaluable to artists and illustrators, the illustations and drawings throughout are pretty cool, with a style that reminds me a little bit of brush pen artists, or freehand artists like Kim Jung Gi, Peter Han, Dongho Kim and Rembert Montald.
Initially I wasn't going to buy this book because I already own so many tips / tricks & how to draw books, that I simply don't get round to reading most of them. However, this one was so inexpensive, even pre release, that I decided I would give it a go, and purchase it for a quick video preview. I am really glad I did, as I find the information in here much easier to read then I expected ( as mentioned in the video, I struggled with the explanations and exercises described in the Peter Han drawing bible book, so I expected this to be the same ). I also found both the information, and the illustrations very inspiring as an artist. I highly recommend this one. Sorie Kim also has a few drawing courses out and is well known for being a best seller on Domestika.
