The Density-Based Traffic Light Control System is designed to optimize traffic flow by adjusting the duration of traffic signals based on real-time vehicle density detected through IR sensors. This project uses an Arduino, a TM1637 display, 3 IR sensors, and traffic LEDs (red, yellow, green) to intelligently manage traffic at an intersection.
The system operates by setting a base green light duration for low-density traffic and extending it when vehicle density is detected by one or more IR sensors. The more sensors that detect vehicles, the longer the green light will stay on, providing a dynamic and efficient traffic control solution. The TM1637 display shows the countdown timer for each signal, providing a clear indication of the remaining time for each phase of the traffic lights.
This approach helps reduce traffic congestion by allowing a longer green light for lanes with higher traffic, improving overall vehicle throughput. Additionally, the system promotes energy efficiency and reduces waiting time for vehicles during low-traffic periods.
