Touch sensitive TOUCH ME lamp Touch Sensor replacement. Back in 2013 I did a tear down video on one of those touch sensitive "touch me" lamps that switch on and off when you touch the body of the lamp. I had changed the bulb and checked the fuse without success so decided the switching circuit had died giving me an excuse to take the lamp apart to see what was inside. Inside the lamp we find an nice little black box containing some circuitry that detects your touch and switches on the light. In the comments on that video several people suggested which component might have failed and suggested I could repair it. Since then the complete modules have been available on eBay at varying prices. Recently after receiving a few more comments on my old video I decided to buy a replacement module and see if it would work.
IF YOU CHOOSE TO DO THIS HERE ARE A FEW POINTS TO BEAR IN MIND
1. We are working with MAINS power so a mistake can have LETHAL consequences, do not try this if you are inexperienced working on mains power. Be safe and use a qualified electrician.
2. Many of these modules have different wiring colours and I have Googled wiring diagrams and found many completely CONFLICTING schematics so you may struggle to understand how the module should be wired.
3. Even after I had satisfied myself I had identified a suitable schematic it didn't work and I had to swap the wires before I was successful.
I am not endorsing these products so I suggest you do your own search as the prices and specifications will vary and the links I used will probably be out of date when you come to read this. I just list the item title and you can cut and paste it into your eBay search. It will probably work on other online stores too.
