Terror-loop: Combining auditory perception theory, biosensing technologies and sound design practice to craft biofeedback games experiences
Synopsis:
This session explores some of the relationships between sound and affective state, specifically within a virtual environment context. First, we broadly introduce three areas of research:
The psychology of sound in virtual environments
Themes in user-experience research as relevant to virtual environments
Current trends in biosensing and wearable technologies
The session will then focus upon biofeedback game design, using a recent project example that utilised emotion-sensing and evocative sound design techniques.
Biography:
Tom is a Senior Lecturer in Interactive Technologies and specialises in the application of auditory perception theory to the design of virtual and augmented reality systems and experiences.
