Are Limited Time Events Bad for Gaming?
Limited time events - we've all seen them. Some games handle them reasonably well, others not so much. Their time limitations can lead to a feeling of FOMO (the fear of missing out), and their handling can leave other users feeling disappointed, misrepresented, or otherwise just ripped off.
On the counter, limited time events encourage a diversity of experience, play style and hopefully a bit of fun! They allow us as gamers and players to experiment in ways we might not have alone, potentially building our knowledge of the game and making us better players on the process. Arguably they also reward active players, and limited time events like Humankind's Dia De Los Muertos event really showcase cultures, or other elements in our society (charities for example) that may not otherwise capture mainstream attention - hopefully making us more well rounded global citizens in the process.
In this video I argue for and against - but for clarity, not always in the Humankind context. I support Humankind's event, and I hope we see more events like it in future!
