Abstract: Imaging is often used to record activity rather than structure. In this regime, there are simple things that we can do to dramatically improve imaging performance along different axes, such as SNR, frame rate, recorded volume, or illumination power. These improvements rely on programmable microscope elements. I'll discuss how we are using different programmable elements along with different types of prior information to improve activity imaging.

Podgorski Lab: Patterns of activity are the basis of computation in the brain. We are building new microscopes to record large patterns of synaptic activity at high speed, to observe how neurons in the mouse cortex transform inputs into outputs during relevant behaviors.

Janelia’s Optical Interest Group is currently partnering with EMBL’s Microscopy Optics and Image Analysis interest group (MOIA) in a monthly seminar series. The series is open to members of both institutions and the presentations will be available to the public afterwards.
