The unbeaten 86-run stand between Joe Root and Ben Foakes has kept England in the match after visitors lost their top five in the first session. England are 198 for 5 at Tea on Day 1 of the of the fourth Test match at JSCA International Stadium Complex.
Earlier, Akash Deep had a sensational debut in MS Dhoni’s hometown in Ranchi he picked three wickets. Akash Deep knocked over Zak Crawley but he had cut short his celebration as he was overstepped. However, the 27-year-old made a terrific comeback by removing England’s top three. He first got rid of Ben Duckett with a beautiful outswinger. The nip backer and a bold DRS review from captain Rohit Sharma got the better of England No 3 Ollie Pope. Crawley, who survived the earlier no-ball got cleaned up again.
England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and elected to bat against India.
