Ever since the release of Blender 2.5, back in the days (November 2009), we've been introduced to fluid-based smoke simulation. This great feature allows for stunning smoke simulations and dust type effects. But whenever we wanted to create fire, it always had to be tricked by giving the smoke some sort of emission texture.

This is all history now, Blender has been improved on many fields. With the release of Blender 2.65, fire simulation was added to the smoke simulator! Simulating fire, among other great improvements like the adaptive domain, mesh emitters and more are being covered in this upcoming Citizen tutorial.

Fire simulation can be a bit daunting at first with the amount of parameters we can tweak. Physics-based simulations always need quite a bit of experience to achieve the result you have in mind. You have to await the baking process and hope for a cool and satisfying result. I will share my tricks and experience with simulating and rendering fire to help you get started.
