Andrey Karginov: There is no Fault of the Crew of Loprais in the Tragedy Dakar
KAMAZ-master racer Andrey Karginov spoke about the incident involving Ales Loprais, who hit a man during the Dakar 2023 rally. The victim died from his injuries. It turned out to be a 69-year-old Italian fan.
“Unfortunately, there was a serious incident at the Dakar that cost a human life. In place of Loprais, any racer could have been - the fan was standing in the channel, where he should not have been. It’s hard for me to understand how he ended up there, perhaps he wanted to take a beautiful picture on the phone.
There is no fault of the crew in the tragedy. This is a terrible moment. When I read the news, I immediately remembered the Dakar of 2019, when our crew got into a similar situation. Fortunately, then the viewer was not seriously injured - he broke his leg. Of course, people need to be made aware of the dangers of being close to a track that is not limited to car tracks - racers often pave a new path, and spectators must be extremely careful not to endanger their own and other people's lives.
