Top 10 Cel Shaded Games of All Time
Check out my Top 10 favourite Cel-Shaded video games off all time. For those who are not familiar with this particular style of graphics, Cel shading (or toon shading is a type of non-photorealistic rendering designed to make 3-D computer graphics appear to be flat by using less shading color instead of a shade gradient or tints and shades. In saying that people tend to look at Cel-shading as a way to mimic the style of a comic book or cartoon and/or give it a characteristic paper-like texture. In terms of this Top 10 list of Cel-Shaded games I tried to go for clear-cut cel-shaded games, which have more of a flat 2D look to them. I wanted to include games like sunset overdrive in here but I didn’t really classify it as a fully fledge Cel-Shaded title. I also selected one game per franchise and reframed from adding fighting games in here as there was so many that was a grey area for me.
In terms of Cel-shaded games it is the style that I always enjoy. Some people don’t like the colourful and flat graphics as they feel it looks to cartoony but personally I always find them visually pleasing when done correctly. The games that I have selected will hopefully jog some epic memories to some classic moments and are games that I thoroughly enjoyed playing. I loved the way Afro Samurai 1 used cel-shading but as I wasn’t a fan of the game i didn’t include it in the list.
