Here is my review of the RODE NT1 5th Generation large-diaphragm condenser microphone. The earlier versions of the NT1 are used in a lot of studios by serious professional musicians, voiceover actors, podcasters, and audiobook narrators. So we start with a really good mic anyway.
But the 5th generation has a LOT of improvements and new features. In many ways it is an entirely different mic. For one thing, it is a "hybrid" mic. That means you can use it like it has always been used - as a standard XLR (3-pin) microphone. But now you can ALSO use it as a USB mic. It does both!
So you don't actually need to buy a separate recording interface to use the mic if you just use it as a USB mic. But then there is the revolutionary thing about its USB mode - 32 Bit Float! That is a new technology that makes it impossible to ruin your audio by clipping/distorting when you overload it. All you do is reduce the level of the overloaded part in an editor, and all the clipping goes away! It is INSANE. Check it out in the video.
