The likeness of Paul Bunyan was erected in 1959 to honor Oregon’s timber industry as well as commemorate the State’s Centennial.
The Statue stands 31-feet-tall (9.4 m) and is made of concrete and metal. It resides on the corner of North Interstate and North Denver, in the Kenton neighborhood of Portland, Oregon.
It was unveiled during the International Trade Fair, which was held in the Kenton area and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in January 2009.
The statue was the Highlighted Property of the Week when the National Park Service released its weekly list of February 6, 2009.
Designed and erected by the Kenton Businessmen’s Club the statue faces North, and overlooks the Expo Center – the home of the original celebration.
