How to paint loose and lively animals in watercolour - full demonstration of an otter step by step
I love otters - all those whiskers! But they are under threat from road traffic, water pollution and anglers. The Wild Otter Trust works to protect them and forge better understanding of these wonderful creatures. So when they asked if I would donate a piece of art to help them raise funds, I said yes. At the same time, this channel is hitting 50,000 subscribers, and when I asked people what they wanted to do to celebrate they said a full painting tutorial would be better than cake and balloons. I'm not sure anything is better than cake, but decided to do both things at once and this otter came into being.
I take you through the initial plan and thumbnail, choosing colours, sketching it out and then painting. I will show you how to layer and achieve lovely textures. I even use my brand new crystalline watercolours (you can find a full review of these from @jackmansartmaterials here:
Now a confession and apology. As I reviewed and edited the footage, I realised that the autofocus had gone wrong at one point. It is as I am painting the background. I have used the blurry footage, as there was no time for me to paint the entire thing again. I am sorry, but when it is me filming me, it is impossible to see these glitches until it is too late.
