Hello everyone. Welcome back to HJ Invests. Banking sector plays a vital role in the growth of an economy and the prosperity of a nation. They act as a mediator between people who want to save and businesses who want to borrow. They provide a much needed source of funds to thousands of businesses and an avenue to earn returns for a huge part of a country's population. India is blessed with a strong banking sector which includes top class private sector banks like HDFC, Kotak Mahindra, Axis, ICICI, IDFC First and PSU banks like SBI, Bank of Baroda, etc. and a strong regulator like RBI (Reserve Bank of India). I have been making videos on the banking sector and so far have covered topics like Capital Adequacy Ratio, CASA Ratio, etc. Today, I will be discussing a very commonly used term in banking which is NPA. NPA i.e. Non Performing Asset is disclosed by all banks and is arguably the most tracked parameter to gauge a bank's health. Low NPA figures attracts investments, deposits and helps the bank develop a good reputation while high NPA figures lead to subdued stock performance and negative media publicity. In this video, I have explained what an NPA is and how to calculate Gross NPA and Net NPA ratio with a very simple example.
