The Samson Q2U vs The Audio Technica ATR-2100 (Which is the best dynamic mic under $100)
Intro: In prep for our upcoming podcast, I decided to release a new video covering two of the best mics for podcast startups on a budget. In this video, I cover ~ The Samson Q2U vs The Audio Technica ATR-2100 (Which is the best dynamic mic under $100)
About the Video: I recently bought the Samson Q2U to add to our podcast mic set and I've had the ATR-2100 for about 4 years now.
What these microphones are all about: Both of these mics are dynamic mics, which means you speak directly into the end of the microphone, and they can both us either USB or XLR cables to be connect to a mixer or your computer. So these mics are true plug-and-play mics!

My thoughts: After careful consideration, I had to go with the Samson Q2U over the ART-2100 (but remember, the ATR-2100 is 4 years old and we had some great times!). Because a few reasons:
1. The price, the Sampson Q2U is about $59.00 with accessories, including: mini stand, wind muffle, a USB cable and two XLR cables.
2. The sound is a bit deeper, and was missing an edge of tinniness that I heard from the Audio Technica
3. The volume buttons! I love the volume buttons on the front of the mic. That is a better design feature, hands down!
But as for build, these two microphones have virtually the same build quality, and are both pretty solid for under $100.00 mics. Sure you can go for a Shure, but you're spending around $300.00 and for me, I was buying 4 or 5 of them and didn't want to throw down $1,500.00 on a new endeavor, in addition to all the other costs and time I was putting into this project. Especially when the audio can best boosted beautifully in Audacity in post, with these solidly built work horses.
