Here's my quick Tutorial on How To Write a Song Idea in 4 Minutes using Hookpad. The 5 Steps are:
- Step #1 - Go to Hooktheory.com (sign up if you don't have an account), then go to Software and enter Hookpad
- Step #2 - Choose the Key and BPM of your song, depending on what style you want to approach
- Step #3 - Start by creating a chord progression. You can compose one from scratch, borrow one from a popular song that you like (chord progressions are FREE of copyright, so it's legal to "borrow" them), or choose one of the 12 Most Popular Chord Progressions of all time, found in this video: • Top 12 Most Popular Chord Progressions
- Step #4 - Create a Melody that fits with the Chord Progression. Use a combination of both stable and unstable scale degrees
- Step #5 - Export everything in MIDI (or even Audio if you like the way it sounds), import the files into your DAW of choice, and then start building a full song based on the idea you just created. Add drums, a bassline and various sounds for chords, pads and melodies. Or even compose some lyrics and record a vocal based on the melody you just created.
