Yet another aria by the great composer from Catania sung by the greatest voices of all time as in this case by the great Luciano Pavarotti. "Malinconia Ninfa Gentile" composed together with 5 other ariette in 1829 is a splendid pearl of the melodic repertoire. A wonderful arietta, short but intense, primacy of expressive singing.
The aria takes its cue from Melanconia, a text by Ippolito Pindemonte (1753-1828), shown below:
"Malinconia, Ninfa gentile,
la vita mia consacro a te;
i tuoi piaceri chi tiene a vile,
ai piacer veri nato non è.
Fonti e colline chiesi agli Dei;
m'udiro alfine, pago io vivrò,
né mai quel fonte co' desir miei,
né mai quel monte trapasserò".
